E-volution Media and Mindya Community: Two Volunteering Activities under the European Solidarity Corps

BRCK Association from Bulgaria implemented another volunteering project within the framework of its Quality Label under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). The project included two main volunteering activities with different durations and thematic focuses: the long-term E-volution Media activity and the short-term Mindya Community activity.

A total of nine young volunteers from Bulgaria, Türkiye, Armenia and Morocco took part in the two activities.

E-volution Media – Long-Term Volunteering

The long-term E-volution Media activity took place mainly in Veliko Tarnovo and ended in late July 2026.

It involved three volunteers from Türkiye, Armenia and Morocco, whose volunteering periods ranged from approximately ten months to one year.

The activity focused on youth media, digital content creation, journalism and communication. The volunteers participated in the preparation and production of videos, interviews, reports, photographs and articles for the E-volution Media platform.

During the project, they worked both on local topics related to Veliko Tarnovo and on broader issues concerning young people, European values, culture and civic participation. Their productions included interviews with students from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, content focused on Generation Z, coverage of public and cultural events, Bulgarian traditions, local crafts and various initiatives in the city.

The volunteers also participated in an international media activity in Râmnicu Sărat, Romania, where they conducted an interview with Florin Ceparu, President of ONYX. During their stay in Bulgaria, they also had the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo, present their work and share their experience as European Solidarity Corps volunteers.

The materials created during the activity were published on the E-volution Media platform and YouTube channel and remain a tangible result of the project.

Mindya Community – Short-Term Volunteering Activity

The second main part of the project was Mindya Community, a short-term volunteering activity implemented in the village of Mindya for approximately one and a half months during June and July 2025.

The activity brought together six volunteers from Bulgaria, Türkiye, Armenia and Morocco.

Mindya Community focused on the local community, environmental activities, culture and art. The volunteers participated in practical initiatives aimed at improving the community environment, environmental actions and work in public spaces, as well as the preparation and implementation of cultural and artistic activities.

Part of the programme was specifically designed to encourage interaction between the international volunteers and the residents of Mindya. Working in a small rural community also gave participants the opportunity to learn more about local life, traditions and the cultural environment.

Nine Volunteers, Two Different Approaches

Combining long-term and short-term volunteering made it possible to apply two different approaches within the same project.

E-volution Media was focused on sustained work in media, digital communication and youth participation, while Mindya Community concentrated its activities within a shorter period and around a specific local community, with an emphasis on environmental action, culture, art and community-based volunteering.

Both activities followed the core principles of the European Solidarity Corps — youth participation, solidarity, intercultural exchange, the development of new competences and meaningful contributions to local communities.

The project is part of BRCK’s continuing volunteering work under its European Solidarity Corps Quality Label and builds on the organisation’s previous experience in organising and supporting international volunteering activities.
